Forest and Environment Department

I am honoured to introduce myself as Mukesh Patel, the newly appointed Minister of the Forests & Environment Department in the Government of Gujarat.

With a deep passion for nature and the environment, I am excited to take on this role and contribute towards the protection, conservation and sustainable development of the state’s natural resources. My journey in the field of environmental conservation started early on in my life when I realized the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. Over the years, I have actively participated in various environmental initiatives and campaigns, both at a local and national level. This experience has given me a unique perspective and understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this field.

As the head of the Forests & Environment Department in Gujarat, my main priority is to achieve sustainable development while protecting and conserving the state’s precious forests, wildlife and environment. We will work towards achieving this by introducing sound environmental and forest management practices, involving the participation of all local communities and industry players.

Our department will also take special measures to protect the endangered Gir Lions, expedite forest settlement issues and dwellers’ rights, and enforce pollution control laws. We will encourage industries and companies to adopt preventive measures to reduce pollution and adopt eco-friendly practices. Additionally, we will develop an Environmental Infrastructure Plan for 10 years in light of Vibrant Gujarat offers.

In the pursuit of our mission and vision, we have the support of four executing agencies, including the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Gujarat Ecology Commission, Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology and Gujarat Environmental Management Institute, to effectively carry out our functions.

I am excited to lead this department and work towards a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Gujarat. I look forward to working with all contributors towards the larger goal of protecting and conserving our planet’s natural resources.

Mission and Vision

To achieve the sustainable development in the State by introducing the sound environmental and forest management practices.

To protect the precious forest and wild life by involving the peoples participation and other stake holders.

To protect the environment through regulations of various environmental law.

To expedite forest settlement issues and dwellers' rights.

To take series of preventive pollution measures, through user industries and companies and make an Environmental Infrastructure Plan for 10 years in light of Vibrant Gujarat offers.

To ensure more strict enforcement of pollution control laws and encourage. P- P- P in laying of effluent lines , pipes and adoption of hazard dumping sites for green zones.
